YAWA PWS (Personal Weather Station) ("the App") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and how it is stored. It applies to the App on both Android and iOS.
1. Information Collected
YAWA PWS does not collect, store, transmit, or share personal information with the developer.
The App does not require an account and does not track users.
The App stores the following locally on your device:
- Station ID (entered by you)
- Weather Underground API Key (entered by you)
- App preferences (such as units and appearance) and the most recent weather reading, cached for display
This information is stored only on your device, using each platform's secure storage:
- On Android, the API key is stored in encrypted app storage (EncryptedSharedPreferences); preferences and the cached reading are stored in the App's private local storage (DataStore).
- On iOS, the API key is stored in the iOS Keychain; preferences and the cached reading are stored in the App's private local storage (UserDefaults).
This information is never transmitted to the developer.
2. Weather Data
The App retrieves weather data from:
- Weather Underground / Weather.com (PWS API)
To fetch your station's readings, the App sends your Station ID and API Key directly from your device to Weather.com's servers. This is the only information that leaves your device, and it is sent only to retrieve weather data. The developer does not proxy, intercept, or store this data.
Weather.com may process requests according to its own privacy policy.

3. Data Sharing
YAWA PWS:
- Does not sell data
- Does not share data with third parties, other than the request to Weather.com described above
- Does not use analytics frameworks
- Does not include advertising
- Does not use tracking SDKs
No information leaves your device except the request made directly to Weather.com to retrieve your weather data.
4. Data Retention
All stored information remains on your device until you choose to remove it.
- On Android, all of the App's stored data — including the API key, preferences, and cached reading — is removed when you uninstall the App.
- On iOS, app preferences and cached data are removed when you uninstall the App. An API key stored in the iOS Keychain may persist after uninstallation, as this is standard iOS behavior for Keychain items; to remove it, clear the API key in the App before uninstalling.
5. Security
The API key is stored using platform-provided secure storage: encrypted app storage on Android, and the Keychain on iOS.
No cloud storage or developer-operated servers are used by the App.
6. Children's Privacy
YAWA PWS does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Since the App does not collect personal information, it complies with COPPA requirements.
7. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if the App's data practices change. Updates will be reflected by revising the Effective Date above.
