Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 28, 2026 · Widgetal Digital LLC
WayLog is a mileage tracking and vehicle logbook app for iOS and Android. This policy explains what data the app accesses, where it is stored, and how it is used.
1. Data We Access & Store Locally
WayLog processes the following data on your device to provide its core functionality:
- Location data — GPS coordinates used to detect trips, calculate distances, and record start and end points along with route polylines. Location is accessed in the background when the app detects you are driving.
- Motion & physical activity — Device motion and activity recognition data (via Apple CoreMotion on iOS and Activity Recognition on Android) used to distinguish driving from walking, cycling, or stationary activity.
- Bluetooth connection state — Optional vehicle Bluetooth pairing names used on-device to automatically match a detected drive to a specific vehicle.
- Camera & photos (receipt scanning) — If you choose to photograph or import a fuel receipt, gas pump display, or service work order, WayLog uses the camera or photo library to attach the image to your record and performs optical character recognition (OCR) entirely on your device. Receipt images and extracted text are never uploaded to external servers.
- Trip, vehicle, fuel & service records — Start and end times, distances, durations, GPS routes, categories, notes, vehicle details, odometer readings, fuel fill-ups, and maintenance entries you create.
2. How Your Data Is Stored
All data collected by WayLog is stored on your device only (using Apple SwiftData on iOS and local database storage on Android). No personal data, location history, or receipt images are transmitted to Widgetal Digital LLC or any third-party server.
WayLog does not use third-party analytics services, advertising SDKs, or external AI APIs that send your data off your device. The app periodically fetches IRS standard mileage rates from our static web server without transmitting any personal or trip data.
3. Cloud Backup & Sync
A future version of WayLog may offer optional cloud sync (such as iCloud on iOS) to share your trip data across your own devices. If enabled, your data would be stored in your personal cloud account under your platform provider's standard privacy terms.
4. Permissions & Controls
WayLog requests Always / Allow all the time location permission and Motion / Physical Activity permission so it can detect trips automatically while the app is in the background. Optional Bluetooth permission is used to identify your vehicle, and Camera or Photo Library permissions are requested only when you choose to scan or attach a receipt.
You can change or revoke any of these permissions at any time in your device's system Settings. If background location is disabled, you can still log trips, fuel fill-ups, and service records manually.
5. Data Sharing
WayLog does not sell, rent, or share your data with any third parties. Your trip history, location data, receipt photos, and vehicle records remain entirely on your device unless you explicitly export and share a report (such as a PDF or CSV file) or diagnostic log.
6. Data Deletion
You can delete individual trips, fuel logs, service records, or vehicles at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app from your device permanently removes all locally stored data.
7. Children's Privacy
WayLog is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
